Swan Bay 2015 Chardonnay, $22
Here’s a wine that’s right on trend, not just because of its bright and lively packaging, but also because its producer, Scotchman’s Hill, is making the move towards vegan-friendly wines (that is, using vegetable-based fining agents to clarify its wines, rather than the more commonly used egg and dairy products). The Chardonnay in its easy-drinking Swan Bay range has subtle oak – just over two-thirds was fermented wild in French oak and the rest in stainless steel, so there’s a bit of interest and complexity but lots of freshness as well. With peach and citrus notes, and a lovely creaminess, this stylish number from Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula ticks all the boxes.
