Shaw Vineyard Estate 2018 Riesling, $30
The Canberra region generally produces fine Riesling that in my humble opinion rivals that which is being produced in South Australia’s Clare and Eden Valleys. A combination of vineyard location and an ever so slightly later harvest than others in the Canberra region allows winemaker Graeme Shaw to produce a Riesling that is a little more aromatic and a lot more passionfruit/tropical fruit flavoured than Canberra Riesling typically is. Nor is Shaw in a rush to release it onto the market, recognizing that it takes a while for all the flavours to settle. It’s certainly worth the wait. This is a really beautiful wine, with green apple and lemon notes that make it refreshing to drink now, though we feel it will age gracefully as well.
