Riversdale Estate 2014 Botrytis Riesling, $29

Wow, what a beauty. The judges at the 2017 Tasmanian Wine Show thought so too as they awarded this the trophy for Best Sweet Wine at the show. It’s a gorgeous dessert wine (or perfect for enjoying with foie gras or blue cheese). The lusciously rich ripe fruit is finely balanced with a palate-cleansing natural acidity in a beautiful expression of the style. It’s fairly scarce – not a lot of it was made – so do yourself a favour and squirrel away a bottle of this golden nectar to pull out for the right occasion. With citrus notes and a little bit of honey and spice, it’s a new success story for Riversdale, which previously had only won trophies and gold medals for its dry Riesling.
