Richard Hamilton 2018 Almond Grove Chardonnay, $20
Typically I would match duck with Pinot Noir but the press release that accompanied this Chardonnay suggested duck as a match. It was a pleasant surprise but I shouldn’t be surprised because one of Chardonnay’s greatest assets is that it goes with just about anything. Almonds were widely grown in McLaren Vale before many of the almond groves made way for vineyards like this one. I reckon I can taste a hint of almond in the wine, along with some peach characters, subtle oak and lovely fresh acidity. Drink up!
