It’s taken me a while to get to this wine after its November release and I’m sorry about that because it’s definitely a wine I want to tell you about, not least because it’s produced from an organic vineyard. Any vigneron who goes down the really tough route of producing wine organically really does deserve praise. Cowra vignerons Jason and Rebecca O’Dea decided to grow their grapes organically more than 10 years ago and recently they’ve had some wonderful accolades, including being named a national finalist in the 2015 Australian Organic Annual Awards for Excellence. In 2014, their quirky Pig in the House brand was awarded NASAA Organic Wine of the Year. Their 2014 Shiraz is rich and generous, with chalky, earthy and funky notes that are very appealing. This little piggy is very at home with such an interesting Shiraz in the glass; indeed she’s more like a pig in mud than a pig in the house.
