Nicolas Feuillatte Brut NV, $60
As far as Champagne houses go, Nicolas Feuillatte is relatively young. Founded in 1976, it’s not tied to a long-held style. Instead, its non-vintage Reserve Particuliére Brut is soft and approachable, leaning to neither sweetness nor tartness, just genuinely lovely Champagne characters with a fine bead, great depth of flavour and seductive fruit and floral aromas. Over 500 of the 1,950 hectares Nicolas Feuillatte takes fruit from are Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, giving the winery an unrivalled selection of grapes. The French have clearly fallen in love with it, as it’s the number one selling Champagne in its home country, and it is hugely popular with the A-List in Hollywood and New York too. So if you see yourself as a style icon, this is definitely one bottle you’d like to be popping the cork on.
