Eileen Hardy 2016 Shiraz, $154
Hardy’s flagship Eileen Hardy Shiraz is a classic, one to put away for a few years if you like – assuming you can resist the temptation to drink it. It has all the hallmarks of old-vine McLaren Vale Shiraz: dark chocolate/mocha, sweet cedary oak and spice notes. With enticing aromas and a deliciously long finish, it has bright plum and blueberry notes, and bold tannins without being overbearing. 2016 was quite a unique vintage in McLaren Vale with well-above-average yields of high-quality fruit. All the better for everyone.
