Di Giorgio Family Wines 2014 Shiraz, $26
Years ago, I had great fun stomping the grapes at this delightful Coonawarra winery, but it’s been a long time between drinks for me and Di Giorgio wine. What a pleasure then to lift the lid on this vibrant and fruity Shiraz, a variety that Coonawarra does so well but which is often overshadowed by its Cabernet sibling. Three generations of passion and commitment have steered Di Giorgio to where it is today, a successful family-owned enterprise with an eye on the future while still having the greatest respect for tradition. With subtle oak and hints of black pepper and spice, this Shiraz went down a treat with a bowl of spaghetti Bolognese. I won’t be waiting so long to enjoy Di Giorgio wines in future.
