Di Giorgio Family 2015 Montepulciano, $23
A rich, piping-hot lasagne and a bottle of this very drinkable red works a treat on a chilly winter’s day. Montepulciano is grown widely in central and southern Italy, where the Di Giorgio family hail from. Long-time producers in South Australia’s Coonawarra region, they turned to the nearby Limestone Coast to source the fruit for this and other wines in their ‘Renaissance’ range. (There’s also a Riesling and a Tempranillo.) The Montepulciano is a medium-bodied wine, low in acid with hints of pepper and spice, but robust enough to be drunk with big, hearty dishes. Saluti!
