2014 Apple Tree Flat Chardonnay, $13
So you have to pay a lot of money to get a good Chardonnay, do you? Well no you don’t, actually. Winemaker Peter Logan has excelled himself with this $13 baby, producing an elegance and finesse that is not often seen in wines at this price. The Chardonnay is from Mudgee which, in an interesting aside, was the site of Australia’s first commercial Chardonnay plantings. It has subtle lemon and stonefruit notes, and a buttery, nutty character that is soft and appealing. I’m liking it a lot – and not just because my first home was at Apple Tree Creek (not the same apple tree!)
