The Orange region has built a reputation for its Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc but this cool NSW region is also doing some exciting things with less mainstream varieties. Angullong Wines is home to quite an array of varieties including Sangiovese, Barbera, Vermentino, Savagnin, Tempranillo and Sagrantino. I’m a great fan of Barbera. It’s such a food-friendly variety and Angullong’s is no exception. It’s medium-bodied, seductively aromatic, with generous flavours of cherries, berries and sweet/spice. We enjoyed it with pork and plum sausages from The Famous Dayboro Sausage Man, and thought the combo was terrific. Life is sweet, our happiness complete.
