2015 Roaring 40s Pinot Noir, $26
I’m a great fan of Tasmanian Pinot Noir. The island state is probably the most exciting Pinot-producing region in Australia, its cool climate producing stylish, delicate wines with lovely purity. Ian and Wendy Roberts established their Riversdale Estate vineyard in 1991 and their wines are made off-site by award-winning winemaker, Alain Rousseau. They make three levels of Pinot and this is their entry-level product, but don’t let that detract from it, for it is still an elegant, 100% estate-grown wine with a great concentration of flavours. The lovely sweet fruit with its chocolate/black cherry notes is balanced with natural acidity and an underlying earthiness. It pairs easily with a whole range of dishes, and is one to enjoy now.
