Ginger Flower and Food Festival, Sunshine Coast

Ginger Flower and Food Festival, Ginger Factory, Yandina
Ornamental gingers and stunning heliconias will be for sale at the festival.

Ginger is one of the world’s most versatile plants, and in January it comes to the fore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, when the Ginger Flower and Food Festival celebrates all that is great about this wonderful plant.  Ginger or ginger root is consumed as a delicacy, a medicine and a spice, while ornamental gingers thrive in our sub-tropical climate and are bursting with colour.

The Festival will be held next weekend, from Friday January 20 to Sunday January 22, at the Ginger Factory in Yandina. Now in its 21st year, it promises to delight the senses with three spectacular days of food, flowers and entertainment. I had the privilege of attending the festival a couple of years ago and can highly recommend it for a great day out.

The event is brimming with local talent keen to share their cooking and gardening secrets. The program includes informative garden talks, lifestyle and food workshops, cooking demonstrations by renowned chefs across all three days, and live entertainment and fun activities across all three days.

A stunning array of more than 3000 plants will be for sale. Anyone who has visited the Ginger Factory knows it also has an excellent shop where you can buy a wonderful array of kitchen and lifestyle products (not just ginger) at any time of year. With special attractions for the kids, littlies love the Ginger Factory as much as adults do, making it lots of fun for all ages.
