Local Canberra duo, Lou Moxom and Belinda Whitney, started boutique florist Moxom + Whitney in 2013. Since then, their bountiful blooms and spectacular terrariums have not stopped growing in popularity (excuse the pun!).

The pair first set up shop at the former Lonsdale Street Traders site alongside other pop-ups such as the much-loved Sweet Bones vegan café and Itrip Iskip, selling boutique blooms and their extremely popular and unique terrariums. Their offering was an instant success, riding the wave of the booming terrarium trend.

Classes to learn how to construct these botanic beauties fill quickly and many have to join waiting lists for their in-demand classes – something I’ve always wanted to do in Canberra. Terrariums are a great way to bring a bit of the outdoors in and add some greenery to your living space. They are also low maintenance and are relatively easy to put together with the right help – the fun part is all in the details.

Moxom and Whitney’s terrarium classes cost $150 per person with a $50 deposit required at the time of booking and, are also available for private groups.

This beautiful florist moved to a bigger space along the eclectic Lonsdale Street, one of Canberra’s hottest shopping and eating precincts. The shop itself is a wonderful oasis of wild greenery and flowers with a variety of terrariums on display.

The freshness of the blooms and the lush greens are a striking contrast against the brick and metal of the industrial Ori building. The hand painted signage that adorns the shopfront is a very stylish, yet sweet touch. Of course, the shop smells fantastic, with an enticing, fresh fragrance that permeates throughout.

Moxom and Whitney’s floral design aesthetic is beautifully unique, with distinctive palms, tropical greenery, seeds and pods – the pair has over 15 years experience in the floral industry combined.

Whether I’m picking up some blooms to brighten my home or someone’s day, Moxom and Whitney is always front of mind. It’s a treat, but I just adore the fresh addition flowers make to my house. They create some of the most incredible floral arrangements in Canberra, and are true creatives. It’s no wonder they’re so popular.

If you are interested in beautiful, unique floral design, a stop during your next Lonsdale Street foray, or during your next trip to the capital, is a must.
