Canberra is well-served by quality theatres and cinemas. There are six main cinema centres in Canberra showing all the latest movies. The Palace Cinemas are located in the Acton precinct with cafés, restaurants, bars and a very hip vibe.
The jewel in Canberra’s cinema crown is the National Film and Sound Archive, home to the Art Deco style Arc Cinema and the Canberra International Film Festival every year in November.
The Canberra Theatre Centre and Royal Theatre are centrally located in Civic, along with the National Convention Centre, all featuring a full program of overseas and Australian artists and productions. Canberra Rep produces classic stage plays as well as contemporary offerings.
For the avant-garde, check out the program at the Street Theatre featuring music, cabaret, comedy, drama and everything in between – some very creative stuff and you can have a meal there as well.
