Hugely popular in North America, Skrewball Whiskey, the original peanut butter whiskey-flavoured liqueur, is now wooing the Aussie market.
Dedicated to “misfits, black sheep and skrewballs”, misfits Down Under can now get to see what all the fuss is about.
With a smooth, distinctive taste and long finish, Skrewball has a balanced sweet and savoury flavour that combines complex whiskey with rich peanut butter notes. Fans range from first timers to seasoned whiskey drinkers.
The trailblazing Southern California-born brand was founded by Steven Yeng, a Cambodian refugee, and his wife Brittany, a former chemist who became a lawyer.
Steven discovered his love of peanut butter shortly after arriving in the United States. A key part of the care packages his family received when they first arrived, peanut butter was his “taste of freedom”.
Passionate about the product, he began integrating it into cocktails at an Ocean Beach bar he had opened with his brothers. It was a best-seller, with patrons going nuts – literally.
One of the fastest market rollouts
Recognizing the buzz it created, Brittany saw an opportunity to forge their own path by turning it into a shelf-stable liqueur that could be enjoyed at home and in bars around the world.
It’s fair to say that it’s been a dream run since. In one of the fastest market rollouts in the history of American spirits, the brand rapidly expanded in the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean.
It has won several awards, including the Best Flavoured Whiskey award at the New York World Wine and Spirits Competition.
Global wine and spirits brand, Pernod Ricard, became a majority stakeholder in 2023 and this year the brand expanded into Australia and New Zealand, with Steven Yeng making a visit Down Under to celebrate the launch.
Now available from all major retailers, Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey Flavoured Liqueur has a recommended price of $65.
It can be sipped straight, served on the rocks, or enjoyed in cocktails like the one here, a twist on the classic espresso martini.
