You’ve heard about Dry July but what about Half July? While drinking less alcohol is a growing trend, not everyone wants to reduce their consumption completely. And that’s where a drink like Hawke’s Half XPA comes in.
With an ABV of just 1.75%, it’s half a standard drink in a tin. Yet if it was poured into a glass and you weren’t told what it was, I reckon you’d be hard-pressed to pick that it’s a half-strength beer.
Pale and golden, it really delivers on flavour, with aromatics of mango and pineapple, and lashings of citrus and stone fruit on the palate. It has a pleasantly subtle malt sweetness with very little bitterness.
When low-alcohol booze started appearing on the market, beers especially were nothing to write home about. But they’ve come such a long way, and Hawke’s Half XPA is proof that a drop in alcohol doesn’t have to mean a drop in flavour.
Hawke’s Half XPA is available from bottle shops and online for a recommended price of $49.99 for 24 x 375ml cans.
