Beenleigh Rum 140th anniversary
Beenleigh Rum has been honing its rum-making process since 1884.

Beenleigh Rum, Australia’s oldest operating distillery and a Queensland icon, is marking 140 years of rum-making with the release of a limited-edition rum, The Legend, and an anniversary event at its Eagleby distillery this Saturday (October 19, 2024).

This milestone celebrates not only Beenleigh’s rich heritage but also Queensland’s long-standing rum tradition. Crafted before Coca Cola was even invented, Beenleigh has continued to hone its rum-making process ever since it was founded in 1884.

To commemorate this achievement, Beenleigh is releasing 1,884 bottles of The Legend (RRP $80). Crafted from Queensland molasses, it’s said to offer a “rich palate of toasted caramel, oak, and spice, with a smooth, warming finish”.

Will Sullivan, brand manager at Beenleigh, says The Legend is more than just a rum. “It’s a tribute to Queensland’s spirit and our enduring connection with the people who have supported us for generations. This special release honours that legacy.”

With pre-orders available here, rum lovers and collectors are encouraged to act fast before it sells out.

Beenleigh Rum 140th anniversary The Legend
Only 1884 bottles of The Legend will be released globally.

On Saturday, October 19, Beenleigh will host a 140th anniversary celebration at its Big Red Shed. There’ll be tastings of Beenleigh’s award-winning rums, live music, auctions, food and drink deals, and specialty cocktails. There’ll also be distillery tours offering a behind-the-scenes look at the rum-making process, Beenleigh story and production methods, and tips on how to best appreciate the nuances of each rum.

Whether you’re a seasoned fan or new to the world of rum, it promises to be a great day out. The celebration starts at 1:00pm at the Beenleigh Distillery, 142 Distillery Rd, Eagleby. Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased here.
