As you might have guessed from our post, Why We’re In Love With Maple Syrup, we’ve had a lot of fun playing around with Pure Canadian maple syrup, even using it in cocktails.
This watermelon margarita is a unique and quirky cocktail that is incredibly refreshing and flavoursome. Perfect for sipping in the sun, it’s made with a mix of fresh watermelon juice, orange juice, tequila and pure maple syrup.
The subtly spiced garnish and a fresh wedge of watermelon provide the finishing touches. Feel free to adjust the quantities to suit your personal preference.
Maple Watermelon Margarita
Makes 1
For the garnish:
1 tbsp sea salt flakes
1 tbsp smoked paprika
4 lime wedges
INGREDIENTS
1½ oz fresh watermelon juice
1½ oz tequila
1 oz lime juice
1 oz pure maple syrup (preferably golden for its delicate flavour)
½ oz smooth orange juice
1 pinch chilli powder
1 watermelon wedge
To make the watermelon juice, scoop the watermelon flesh into your blender and blitz until smooth.
Prepare your margarita glass: On a small, rimmed plate, mix the salt and paprika together. Run a wedge of lime around the top of each glass then dip the top of the glass into the salt blend. Add ice cubes to your glass and set it aside.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in the watermelon juice, tequila, lime juice, maple syrup and orange juice.
Secure the lid to the shaker and shake for 30 seconds. Strain the liquid into your prepared glass, add a lime wedge and sprinkle one pinch of chilli powder.
