There’s just enough time to whip out to Dayboro for the hugely popular Dayboro Day Festival, where the main street is closed off to traffic and thousands of visitors flock there for entertainment, craft and other stalls, and good old-fashioned hospitality. The festival is on until 3.30pm today.
It’s a lovely drive to this historic town at the foot of the D’Aguilar Ranges, on the outskirts of Brisbane. We enjoyed a fascinating walk around the town recently, following points of interest along the Dayboro Heritage Trail. After the walk, we poked around some of the little shops in town, and numerous enthusiastic store owners told us about Dayboro Day.
The event is organised by the Dayboro District Progress Association and entry is free. A $5 entry fee applies for the Antique and Collectables Fair that is held at the Showgrounds in conjunction with the festival.
The festival has been held since 1991 and gets bigger and better every year. There’s a street parade, helicopter rides, craft and white elephant stalls, a massive book stall, animal farm, rides, food stalls, police and ambulance displays, fire engines, blacksmiths in action, live entertainment and more.
The main street, Williams Street, and also Heathwood Street, are closed to all traffic from 8.30am to 3.30pm.
