Since moving to Queensland, we’ve been astounded at the number of excellent music festivals there are here. It seems you could be tapping your toes somewhere in the south-east on almost any weekend. The Caloundra Music Festival is one that we’re keen to check out. To be held on the long weekend of October 2 to 5, it promises not only a terrific line-up of Australian artists but also some hugely talented artists from New Orleans.
The Festival has built up a special relationship with New Orleans musos over the past nine years, and this time around, Royal Southern Brotherhood will wow audiences with their fiery guitars and powerhouse rhythm section. The New Orleans band has been winning over audiences worldwide since coming onto the blues scene in 2011.
Great line-up + Royal Southern Brotherhood
Organisers are promising that this year’s Festival will have the biggest and most impressive entertainment program to date. Artists will include Angus & Julia Stone, Xavier Rudd & the United Nations, Hoodoo Gurus, Josh Pyke, Casey Barnes, Ben Lee and Pseudo Echo with many more artists across the beachfront stages.
Legendary Aussie performers in the Good Times Band, including Kate Ceberano, Joe Camilleri, Brian Cadd, Ross Wilson and Wilbur Wilde, will come together to perform their best hits and will be certain to have the soul stage rocking on Monday, October 5.
Offering four days of sun, surf and soul, the Festival is a family-friendly event held adjacent to Kings Beach, within walking distance to Bulcock Beach, the CBD and many accommodation and dining outlets.
Prior to the Festival, the Caloundra Music Fringe Festival will whet the appetite with events from September 25 through to October 6. Comedian Jimeoin will hit the funny bone at the Loudmouth Comedy Festival, a high-energy rock and roll night of comedy on Thursday, October 1, in Kings Park.
He’ll be supported by a line-up of Queensland comedians including Matt Okine, co-host of Triple J’s Breakfast Show. Okine was awarded the 2015 Directors Choice at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013. Definitely a night not to be missed.
